Bright Futures Scholarship & Volunteer Opportunities

The Bright Futures Scholarship is a Florida lottery-funded scholarship program that rewards Florida high school graduates for their academic achievements

To earn service or paid work hours student must submit a work plan to their school counselor. Once the work plan is approved students can start earning their hours. Log sheet for service or paid work hours. Viera School Counselors do encourage all students to turn in their log sheet at the end of every semester.

There are four different levels of the scholarship.

  1. Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS)

    • Students will receive an award to cover 100% of tuition and applicable fees when attending a public postsecondary institution. Students attending a nonpublic institution will receive a comparable amount as noted in the Private Award Chart. FAS students can receive an award during the summer sessions to cover tuition and applicable fees.

  2. Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS)

    • Students will receive an award to cover 75% of tuition and applicable fees when attending a public postsecondary institution. Students attending a nonpublic institution will receive a comparable amount as noted in the Private Award Chart

    • Beginning in fall 2021, students enrolled in an associate degree program at a Florida College System institution will receive an award to cover 100% of tuition and applicable fees.

  3. Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC)

  4. Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV)

Each scholarship has qualification that students need to meet by the time they graduate high school. In addition to weighed GPA, certain ACT/CLT or SAT test scores students also must complete certain classes as well as complete the required number of volunteer service, paid work hours, or the combination (Service/Paid) of 100 total hours

VHS School Counseling team will help students complete the FFAA application in their Senior year of high school.

*Brevard Public Schools send transcripts twice a year starting students' Junior year of high school to bright futures for evaluation.

**If students are looking to attend college out of state, VHS School Counselors recommend all graduating seniors work towards qualifying for the Bright Futures Scholarship prior to graduation. If for some reason a student comes back to finish their college education in Florida, they will have access to their Bright Futures scholarship as long as they qualified when they graduated high school. Students who did not receive funding immediately following high school graduation must apply within five years after high school graduation to reinstate the award.

This picture lets student know there is an early evaluation posting beginning in March of their senior year as well as the final evaluation posting beginning of July after graduating from high school.
